Blue Ocean Strategy
Blue Ocean Strategy is a market-creating framework based on the book by W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne, professors at INSEAD. Initially published in 2004, an extended edition was published in 2015. A subsequent title called “Blue Ocean Shift” was then published in 2017.
Blue Ocean Strategy provides an answer on how to compete in the highly competitive market characterised by similar products and offerings making it impossible for businesses to stand out.
Accolade Coaching is an accredited affiliate of Blue Ocean Strategy Australia. A group of consultants specialising in delivering solutions based on the Blue Ocean Strategy framework.
Strategyzer made the name in 2010 when Alexander Osterwalder and Yves Pigneur published a book titled “Business Model Generation” which gave birth to the tool called the “Business Model Canvas”. The canvas has become the standard for companies worldwide as a tool to create a new business model or improve the old one.
The business model canvas introduced us to the 9 building blocks that make up a business model of any organisation. The business model canvas has been adopted by organisation big and small, ranging from fortune 500 to a smaller not for profit organisations.
Following the success of the book, Strategyzer published a second book titled “Value Proposition Design” focusing on the 2 building blocks out of the 9 mentioned in the earlier book. Both the Value Propositions building block and the Customer Segments building block are 2 critical components of the business model design. The second book digs deeper into designing these 2 blocks to allow for a much stronger business model.
